What your water accountability partner sees
Your streak
How many days in a row you’ve hit your goal.
Today’s progress
How much you’ve had today against your own goal.
Your week
Which days this week you hit it.
Your milestones
When you reach your goal, hit a streak milestone or unlock an achievement.
What they never see: what you drank. Only the totals.
Cheers, nudges and a challenge for two
Cheer
Hit your goal and your partner can cheer you on.
Nudge
Fall behind and they can send a nudge, which arrives as a water reminder from them. It works both ways.
Challenge
Start a shared challenge for 3 or 7 days, free. You each drink to your own goal, and together you need 70% of your goal days to earn Drops, Waltermelon’s in-app reward.
To make it a team, see how a water tracker with friends works, or try a water challenge for couples.
People with a friend in the app stick with it
How we measured it: everyone who signed up for Waltermelon between October 2025 and mid-September 2026, each with at least 30 days in the app. “Added a friend” counts friends added in the first week, so people who stayed longer don’t get extra time to qualify. “Still using” means they logged a drink 30 or more days after signing up. All five of the longest streaks in the app belong to people with friends. This is a correlation from our own data, not a controlled study. More on our water tracker with friends page. Updated October 24, 2026.
How to set up a water accountability partner today
- 1
Pick one person
A partner, a friend or a coworker you talk to every day. One person who replies beats a group chat that doesn’t.
- 2
Agree on the rule
Each of you picks your own daily goal and one check-in time, for example 6 pm.
- 3
Check in with one message
A thumbs up if you hit your goal, how far you got if you didn’t. No explanations needed.
- 4
Run it for a week
Seven days is easy to commit to. At the end, decide together whether to keep going.
- 5
Keep a miss small
If you miss a day, say so and start the next morning with a glass of water. One day doesn’t undo a week.
It’s the same idea as the 7-day water challenge, with one partner. Waltermelon does the counting, so neither of you has to ask.
What makes a good accountability partner
Someone you hear from every day
Accountability needs a daily check. Pick someone who is already part of your day.
Someone kind about a miss
The point is to get back on track tomorrow, not to feel bad about today.
Someone with their own goal
It works best both ways: you both track, and you can both nudge.
More than one, if you like
Waltermelon has no limit on friends, so a partner, a sibling and a coworker can all follow your streak.

Reminders and a safety net
Your partner isn’t watching all day, so Waltermelon reminds you too: every 30 minutes up to every 3 hours, only between your wake-up time and bedtime, and they can stop once you hit your goal.
The Rescue Shield
Spend Drops on a Rescue Shield to save a missed day and keep your streak. You earn Drops from daily challenges and from shared challenges with friends.

Hydration accountability FAQ
What is a hydration accountability app?
A hydration accountability app is a water tracker where someone else can see whether you hit your goal. Waltermelon, free on iPhone and Android, lets you add an accountability partner as a friend: they see your streak and today’s progress, cheer when you hit your goal and send a nudge when you fall behind.
How do I find a water accountability partner?
Ask someone you already talk to every day: a partner, a friend, a sibling or a coworker. It works best when both of you track. In Waltermelon you add each other with an invite link, a code or a QR code, on iPhone or Android.
Can my accountability partner remind me to drink water?
Yes. In Waltermelon, when you fall behind on your goal, your friend can send you a nudge, which arrives as a water reminder from them. The app’s own reminders keep running too.
Does accountability help you drink more water?
In Waltermelon’s own data, people who added a friend in their first week were 3 times as likely to still use the app after a month as those who didn’t, and 4.5 times as likely to reach a 30-day streak. It’s a correlation, not a controlled study.
What does my accountability partner see?
In Waltermelon your friends see your streak, how much you’ve had today against your goal, which days this week you hit it, and milestones like reaching your goal. They never see what you drank, only the totals.
Is Waltermelon free to use with an accountability partner?
Yes. In Waltermelon, friends, cheers, nudges, reminders and a 3- or 7-day shared challenge are free, with no ads. To add friends you sign in with Apple, Google or email.
Can I have more than one accountability partner?
Yes. Waltermelon has no limit on friends, and everyone you add can follow your streak and progress.
What if I miss a day?
Your partner will see it, and that’s part of the point. In Waltermelon you can also spend Drops on a Rescue Shield to save a missed day and keep your streak going.
