How to drink more water with your partner in Waltermelon

  1. 1

    Add each other

Send your partner an invite link, share your code or show your QR code. One of you can be on iPhone and the other on Android.

  2. 2

    See each other’s day

Your friends list shows your partner’s streak and how close they are to today’s goal, right next to yours. Tap them to see their week.

  3. 3

    Cheer and nudge

Hit your goal and your partner can cheer you on. Fall behind at work and a nudge from them arrives as a water reminder.

  4. 4

    Start a challenge for two

Pick Daily goal and 3 or 7 days, free to start. You each drink to your own goal, so it doesn’t matter that one of you needs more water than the other.

To add each other, you both sign in with Apple, Google or email. Later on, a shared challenge can include friends and family too: see how a water tracker with friends works.

One bad day won’t end it

The two of you don’t need a perfect week, just 70% of your goal days together. On a 7-day challenge you have 14 goal days between you, and 10 is enough. Make it and you each earn 140 Drops, Waltermelon’s in-app reward (60 each for 3 days). Drops buy Rescue Shields, which save a missed day so your streak keeps going.

A 7-day couples water challenge you can start tonight

Each day adds one small habit you do together, and you keep the ones from the days before. You each aim for your own daily goal. All you need is two bottles and your phones.

  1. Day 1

Whoever gets up first pours a glass of water for both of you.

It’s the easiest glass of the day, and it’s nicer when someone hands it to you.

  2. Day 2

Put a glass of water next to every meal you eat together.

Shared meals are already on the calendar, so the habit comes along for free.

  3. Day 3

Fill a bottle each before you leave the house.

Water in your bag gets drunk. Water in the kitchen doesn’t.

  4. Day 4

Send each other a photo of your bottle at lunch.

It takes five seconds, and half empty by noon means you’re on track.

  5. Day 5

Have a glass of water with every coffee or tea you share.

It ties water to a routine you already have together.

  6. Day 6

Swap one evening drink for sparkling water or water with fruit.

Same moment on the couch, a better drink in your hand.

  7. Day 7

Check in before dinner: who hit their goal, and what helped?

You see which habits worked for each of you and keep those.

Use your own daily goals: the water intake calculator works one out for each of you. Spread your water through the day and never chug to catch up. If either of you has a heart or kidney condition or has been told to limit fluids, talk to a doctor first. For a longer run, the water challenge page has a 30-day version.

From our data

Doing it together helps you stick with it

3×more likely to still use Waltermelon after a monthfor people who added a friend in their first week, compared with people who didn’t
4.5×more likely to reach a 30-day streakfor the same people: friend in the first week versus no friend

How we measured it: everyone who signed up for Waltermelon between October 2025 and mid-September 2026, each with at least 30 days in the app. “Added a friend” counts friends added in the first week, so people who stayed longer don’t get extra time to qualify. “Still using” means they logged a drink 30 or more days after signing up. All five of the longest streaks in the app belong to people with friends. This is a correlation from our own data, not a controlled study. More on our water tracker with friends page. Tips

Tips for couples

  1. 1

    Keep your own goals

One of you may be taller, run more or work somewhere hot. Different goals are fine. The challenge is hitting yours.

  2. 2

    Let reminders cover different schedules

Waltermelon reminders run only between each person’s own wake-up time and bedtime, every 30 minutes up to every 3 hours.

  3. 3

    Nudge, don’t nag

One nudge when they fall behind is enough. A cheer when they hit their goal goes further.

  4. 4

    Plan the weekend

Weekends and travel break most streaks. Fill both bottles before you head out.

  5. 5

    Bring in friends later

Once you have a routine, invite friends or family to the next challenge. Our water challenge ideas have more to try.

  6. 6

    Keep each other honest

Seeing each other’s progress is what makes it work. Read more about having a hydration accountability partner.

FAQ

Couples water challenge FAQ

What is a water challenge for couples?

A water challenge for couples is a set number of days, usually 7, in which you and your partner each try to hit your own daily water goal and check on each other. Waltermelon, a free water tracker for iPhone and Android, lets you see each other’s progress, send a nudge when one of you falls behind and earn rewards together when you make it. Or start with the free 7-day plan on this page tonight.

How can I get my partner to drink more water?

Make it something you do together instead of a reminder from you. Pour two glasses in the morning, put water on the table at shared meals and keep score together. In Waltermelon you add each other as friends, see each other’s progress and can send a nudge, which arrives as a water reminder from you.

Is the Waltermelon couples challenge free?

Yes. In Waltermelon, adding your partner, cheers, nudges and a shared Daily goal challenge for 3 or 7 days are free, and the app has no ads. Joining a challenge your partner started is always free. Premium lets you start 14-day, 30-day and weekend challenges and more types like Morning start and Variety.

Do we need the same daily water goal?

No. In a Waltermelon shared challenge you each drink to your own daily goal, so it doesn’t matter if one of you needs more water. The app sets a goal for each of you when you start, and you can change it any time.

What happens if one of us misses a day?

The challenge keeps going. A Waltermelon shared challenge needs 70% of all goal days, so two people on a 7-day challenge need 10 of their 14. If you make it, you each get 140 Drops, and Drops buy Rescue Shields that save a missed day in your streak.

Can my partner see what I drink?

No. In Waltermelon your partner sees your streak, how much you’ve had today against your goal, which days this week you hit it, and milestones like reaching your goal. They never see what you drank, only the totals.

We have different phones. Does that matter?

No. Waltermelon works on iPhone and Android, and you can add each other and run water challenges across both.

Can we add friends or family to the challenge?

Yes. A Waltermelon shared challenge can include as many friends as you like, and the reward grows with every person up to a team of 4. Each person can be in one shared challenge at a time.

Walter’s ready. Are you?

Free on iPhone, iPad and Android. Set up in a minute, then let Walter do the nagging.
